There is a statistically significant impact of workplace injury on opioid overdose morbidity. Workplace injuries increase the hazard of opioid-related morbidity for both medical-only injured workers as well as lost time injured workers.

Employers must have policies and procedures in place to protect both the company's best interest as well as worker well-being. The Employer must communicate policies, procedures, and company values. The Employer must recognize and establish procedures to attempt to reduce workplace injury or the severity of workplace injury.
