2012 Nonprofit Tax Update

SKU:WC-1011224
Date / Time: Recorded
Format: Webinar
Description:

Although 2011 did not see Congress and the U.S. courts generate a large volume of new tax laws and precedents, many of the changes that were made had significant impact on nonprofit tax returns and the interpretation of tax laws and procedures. Unfortunately, in 2011 over 275,000 organizations lost their tax-exempt status.

This course will cover in depth both the causes and solutions to this major issue. You'll learn about the new changes and how to avoid some of the noteworthy pitfalls that could be lurking in the next year. This course is a necessity for tax practitioners who must navigate through the "IRS minefields" of nonprofit tax laws and procedures.

Coverred Topics:

  • IRS revocation of tax-exempt status and a current update on solutions that are available to the victims of this harsh action
  • Form 990 revisions for 2012—new IRS final regulations issued during 2011
  • Impact of new PTIN requirements and Circular 230 practice guidelines for nonprofit tax return practitioners
  • Health care credit for nonprofits—Form 990-T
  • 2011 changes to IRS rulings and filing fees for nonprofits
  • IRS Advisory Group report on group rulings
  • IRS directive on booster clubs and missionary organizations—raising funds for specific individuals
  • IRS private letter rulings issued in 2011 that relate to joint ventures
  • IRS §170(e)(3)—enhanced charitable deductions for C corporations
  • Nonprofit top 10 legal risks
  • Miscellaneous topics including an overview of UBIT

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the recent tax changes impacting the filing of the Form 990 series of tax returns.
  • Understand recent changes for obtaining reinstatement of IRS tax-exempt status.
  • Explain to clients how the currently challenged economy affects the nonprofit sector.
  • Avoid some of the legal pitfalls that could impact nonprofits in 2012.

About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts:

Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.

The live versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form of training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back at work immediately after the session ends!

And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous times and to share it with others in your office.

Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions.
