Handling & Recouping Payroll Overpayments
|Date / Time:
||5/17/2017 / 2:00 - 3:30pm Eastern
|| Audio Conference|
As much as payroll professionals complete audits and validations each payroll, mistakes do happen and employees get overpaid.
But once an employee has been overpaid, getting the money back is only one challenge. Depending on the type of overpayment, payroll professionals are faced with how to untangle the tax and compliance requirements, as well as the various state laws covering deduction of pay from employees. And many of these laws recently have changed!
This training session gives participants the tools to analyze several types of employee overpayments, and overview - and update - on the various federal and state laws that affect overpayments, plus guidance on how to the handle the specific recoupment and taxation issues properly.
- Review of different types of overpayments from regular pay to non-cash items, such as laptops, given to employees
- The impact of overpayments for hourly employees versus salaried employees
- The IRS "claim of right rule"
- The tax implications of overpayments made in a current and/or a prior tax year
- What special state and federal laws should be considered when collecting overpayments
- Employee loans and advances - and how to handle them
- What are the best methods of repayment
- Special year end reporting concerns for employees that have been overpaid

Cannot Attend The Live Presentation?
This presentation is also available in a recorded format, in On-Demand Or CD versions, as shown in the pricing options below.
|About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts:|
Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you
attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.
versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form of training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without
any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back
at work immediately after the session ends!
And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous
times and to share it with others in your office.
Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the
presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions.
