The IRS has indicated that fringe benefits are now a huge audit focus. If you make a reporting error, even if it was a mistake, there are severe consequences including fines. Audits are now much more invasive than regular tax audits and accounting departments all across the country are wondering how their reporting will stand up in these new audits.
Awards, gift certificates, prizes, and the use of company vehicles are Fringe Benefits because they are above the salary provided by employers. Whether these benefits were offered as a reward or incentive, they are all subject to being taxable. Others, however, do not need to be recorded or taxed.

So how can you figure out the difference? Take ourClass, which is offered in an audio conference. This course can help you determine if your fringe benefits are being offered correctly to your employees. In this conference, you will also learn if these benefits are compliant with state and federal payroll tax regulations. By deciphering the difference, your company can avoid costly audits in the years to come.
In the class, you will which benefits are taxable, and which are not. You’ll also be able to calculate the value of a ‘good’ versus a ‘service’. You will also learn how to do your own internal audit to catch any mistakes that could cause an audit and you’ll receive all the IRS guidelines to help aid in preparation of a tax audit.
This audio conference is presented by Mindy Harada, CPP, who has over 17 years of experience in employment tax consultant. If you cannot attend the audio conference, the class is also available in a recorded format, in OnDemand or CD. Contact us today to find out about this amazing opportunity. You have made the decision to begin a new career or enhance your current one and now you just need to know how to pass the Certified Internal Auditor exam. Walking into an exam fully prepared will give you the knowledge and the confidence needed to easily pass any test.
The CIA exam is a computer-based test consisting of one hundred multiple choice questions per section and the average individual takes about three hours per section to complete it. The exam will test your knowledge on audit risks and the remedies that are recommended for each one along with current auditing practices and standards. It is offered through the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
The first step to passing any exam is making the commitment to not only pass it, but adequately prepare for it as well. Most people lead very busy lives, so it may mean penciling in alone time in order to study. The commitment and determination level must be there to pass the test.
The next step is to become an expert on the exam material. You should know the material covered on the test, how the exam is administered and prepared, the types of questions asked and the proper procedure for taking the exam. You can register to take the exam online.
The CIA exam is broken into four parts. The first part consists of information regarding the Internal Audit activity’s role in governance, risk, and control. The second part covers questions about conducting an internal audit. The third part includes questions regarding information technology and business analysis while the final part covers skills utilized in business management.
Exam candidates are given either a pass or a fail on the test and it is based on a scale of two hundred and fifty points and seven hundred and fifty points.
